Setback to SAD, AAP in Ropar as several top leaders quit to join Cong

Joinee

Chandigarh, January 21

The Shiromani Akali (SAD) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Ropar have been severely hit with the exodus of their senior party leaders into the Congress.

The Ropar leaders, including national hockey player Gurdeep Singh Bheora, joined the Punjab Congress, expressing their total allegiance with Captain Amarinder Singh, whom they met here on Saturday evening.

The Congress candidate from Ropar, Birender, who was instrumental in bringing these leaders into the party fold, was also present at the joining.

Apart from the joinees, a former Akali leader Master Tara Singh Ladal extended unconditional support to the Congress, terming it the only hope of succour for Punjab, which has been brought to the brink of ruin by the Badal-led Akali government in the state.

AAP coordinator and former chairman of Improvement Trust Ropar, Rajinder Singh Parmar, along with Naveed Dardi (AAP leader and Anna Hazare movement coordinator) and Rajinder Singh Badheri were among those who entered the Congress under Captain Amarinder’s leadership.

Parminder Pal Singh Binta, senior Vice President of SAD Ropar and President of Ropar Vyapar Mandal was also among the joinees.

All the leaders expressed total disillusionment with their respective parties, describing them as corrupt and anti-people. Captain Amarinder welcomed their decision to join the Congress as in the interest of Punjab and its people
