Senior BJP leaders to accompany Kovind as he files papers tomorrow

New Delhi, June 22
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, union ministers Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj and Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal will be present when NDA’s presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind files his nomination papers for the July 17 elections on Friday.
Several other top leaders of the BJP and other alliance partners, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu are also expected to be present.
Sources say some Opposition leaders who have expressed support, like Telangana Chief Minister and TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao, may be there when Kovind files the nomination papers—four sets, each proposed by 50 and backed by as many MPs and MLAs.
The process of nominations will take place in the presence of the returning officer—Secretary General of the Lok Sabha Anoop Mishra.
So far, 25 Indians have filed the nomination papers for the top post, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, not the RJD leader but another person of the same name, a resident of Jado Rahimpur village in Saran district of Bihar.
Meanwhile, a day after he called on party veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, Kovind on Thursday visited ailing former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee to seek his blessings before the big day.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 29 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is July 1.
