SAD to submit memo signed by 30 lakh to president to protect its waters

Chandigarh, Dec 5. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has decided to submit memorandum signed by 30 lakh to the President of India soon as part of the party’s ongoing “ Pani Bachao, Punjab Bachao” campaign. And this target is to be accomplished before Dec. 8 Moga rally.

In the memorandum, Punjabis have urged the president to ensure implementation of the principle of “riparian states” while adjudicating on inter-state water disputes and put to an end the ongoing loot of Punjab’s waters for seven decades.

Stating this here today, SAD spokesman Daljit Cheema said that the SAD has reiterated that Punjab has no water to spare to other states whether for drinking or for irrigation. If the existing level of irrigation of the fields is not improved, the fertile Punjab that contributes maximum food grains to the Central kitty would be reduced to barren fields, he added.

Cheema said that already volunteers of the Youth Akali Dal have got it signed it from over 20 lakh people and the target would be achieved in next couple of days. For achieving the target, the party has already organized numerous camps across Punjab in all villages and towns of the state.
