SAD decries registration of false case against local body chief

SAD-26.04.2017

Chandigarh 26 April—The Shiromani Akali Dal strongly condemned the efforts of Punjab Cabinet Minister Mr Charanjit Singh Channi to grab the Municipal Council of Morinda by registering a false case of theft against its legally elected President and his 20 others supporters.

In a statement issued from the party head office the Party Secretary & Spokesman and former Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said that this glaring act amounts to day light murder of democracy in the state of Punjab. He urged the Chief Minister to rein in his Cabinet colleagues and take action against them for their unlawful and unconstitutional actions.

The SAD leader said that SAD-BJP alliance has got the support of 9 out 15 elected councillors. But after the change of gaurd in the state Mr Channi who is MLA of the area started harassing our councillors with the aim to pressurise them to defect to the ruling party. To achieve their goal the congress party brought no confidence motion against our President on April 24.

But when eight of the councillors came out to support the President, then sensing defeat Mr. Channi first tried to get the election postponed through district administration but when our councillors registered and passed the resolution in favour of President in the proceeding book, Mr. Channi got a false case registered against the President along with 20 other unidentified supporters for stealing proceeding book.

“This action of the Congress Minister speaks volumes about the respect which this Govt. is giving to the elected representatives,” added Dr. Cheema.

While releasing all the documents as a proof in the presence of all councillors and party leaders Mr Charanjit Singh Brar and S.Ajmer Singh Khera, Dr Cheema said that I have spoken to the Deputy Commissioner Ropar and urged her to look into the matter and do justice to our workers. If the case against our wokers is not cancelled , then Shiromani Akali Dal would chalk out a further plan to get justice for our workers.
