Chandigarh, January 11 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked the Election Commission to take action against AAP leader Bhagwant Mann and DGP Mohammad Mustafa for making inflammatory statements and trying to coerce the voters respectively. The SAD filed two separate complaints in this regard before the Chief Election Commissioner. Party Office Secretary Charanjit Brar also buttressed the complaints with video proof of the same. The party while briefing the election commissioner said Bhagwant Mann had openly incited people to throw stones at senior leaders of the SAD and had even admitted the same during a television interview. The complaint said Mann had gone to the extent of urging people to not sow crops on part of their land in order to collect stones which could be used against akali leaders. It said Mann had also urged people to stone buses owned by SAD leaders.Asking for an urgent inquiry into the matter, the SAD Secretary Charanjit Brar said Mann had made such speeches with the sole intention of disturbing peace in the State. In a separate complaint the SAD said DGP Mohammad Mustafa, whose wife has earlier served as a legislator and is the favourite for the Congress ticket from Malerkotla, was coercing voters to support her candidature. It said according to reports received from SAD candidate Mohammad Owais, the DGP was openly roaming around in the constituency to canvas for votes for the Congress. The complaint asked her election commission to check the mobile records of Mustafa as well as his wife. It also asked the commission to find out how Mustafa was visiting Malerkotla without taking leave from his department. This, the complaint said, was against service rules and also a violation of the model code of conduct. It asked the commission to conduct an inquiry and take appropriate action in the matter.
