Rituparna beats Rasika to win Polish International

rasika-raje-and-rituparna-dasBeirun (Poland),  Young Indian shuttler Rituparna Das clinched the Polish International title after defeating compatriot Rasika Raje in the women’s singles final of the $6,000 BWF International Challenge event here today.
Rituparna beat Rasika 11-21 21-7 21-17 in a 40-minute clash. Sanjana Santosh and Arathi Sara Sunil clinched the women’s doubles title after defeating top seeds Natalya Voytsekh and Yelyzaveta Zharka 19-21 21-19 21-14 in the final. However, it turned out to be another disappointing end to a good campaign for Sourabh Varma, who lost his second final in two weeks. The Indian, who is making a comeback after a series of injuries, fought a gruelling battle before going down 29-27 21-13 to Denmark’s Victor Svendsen in the final.
Varma had lost to France’s Lucas Corvee in the final of the Belgian International last week. Seventh seed Das had come into the final after a comfortable win, beating Scotland’s Julie Macpherson 21-11 21-9 in a lop-sided semifinal. Raje, meanwhile, was made to fight hard for a place in the final, winning 21-17 28-26 against Malaysia’s Soniia Cheah.
