RAZIA SULTANA TAKES SUO MOTU NOTICE OF MEDIA REPORT ON ACID ATTACK

CHANDIGARH,  Mrs. Razia Sultana, Social Security Minister Punjab today took suo motu notice of the news report appeared in media in which plight of an acid attack victim Ms. Amanpreet Kaur from Bathinda was narrated. The Minister announced that as per the policy of Punjab Government Rs. 8000 per month would be given to her with a rider that she must apply for it through proper channel.

The Minister in a press communiqué said that under a comprehensive policy of the Punjab Government, in order to make acid attack victims self reliant, the Government would provide financial assistance of Rs. 8000 per month to the acid attack victims. She said that the only condition for getting the grant is this that the disability must be up to the level of 40% or more and the victim must possess disability certificate in this regard.

Divulging further detail on the procedure to get the disability certificate, The Minister said that acid attack victim can apply before the concerned district social security officer. She said that the notification in this regard has already been issued the Punjab Government on 20June, 2017.

She said that as per the notification issued by the Home & Justice Department on 5 March, 2014, an acid attack victim can claim 100% reimbursement of the medical expense on treatment. The Minister added that if any person becomes handicapped in any sort of mishap, he can make his handicapped certificate free of cost from the concerned district Civil Surgeon.
