PUNJAB GOVT TO START ‘GERMAN DUAL VET’ PROGRAMME IN THE ITI’S: CHANNI

Chandigarh, January 18: The Punjab Government has decided to launch a ‘German Dual VET’ training programme in the Industrial Training Institutes of the state. The programme would be jointly run by the TATA & SIEMENS companies to upgrade the skills of the Instructors and students as per the needs of the present day Industry. The decision in this regard was taken here in a meeting in the presence of the senior officials of the TATA & SIEMENS companies and senior officers of the Technical Education Department, Punjab; the meeting was presided over by the Technical Education & Industrial Training Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi.

Disclosing about the training programme, the technical education minister Mr. Channi said that this programme is being launched to upgrade the skills of our youth for jobs as per the requirements of the present day needs of the Industry. He said that in the first phase this programme is being stared for the Electrician & Fitter trades in 20 government ITS’s of 6 districts, which includes Amritsar, Ropar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib districts. ‘Apart from this skill development training, employability skills and placement facilitation would be provided to the students by both the companies,’ added the technical education Minister.

The Minister further said that after the completion of this training program, this module would be implemented in all the government ITI’s of the state for other trades also.

Mr. Channi also said that before the start of this program, the joint teams of both the companies would visit the ITI’s selected for training programme and submit an infrastructure gap report to the Technical Education & Industrial Training Department. The Minister also instructed the department officials to strengthen the labs of the ITI’s without any delay so that proper training could be provided.

The Technical Education Minister said that both the companies have also agreed that under this program, instructors of remaining ITIs would also be trained.

Others prominent present in the meeting included Anita Rajan Chief Operating Officer Tata Strive, Vikramjit Singh Dua Center Manager Tata Strive Skill Development Center, Anupam Nidhi Chief Corporate Citizenship SIEMENS, Manmohan Singh Korega Manager Corporate Citizenship SIEMENS, Mr. Praveen Thind Director Technical Education, Mohanbir Singh Sidhu Additional Director and Daljeet Kaur Additional Director, besides other officers of the Technical Education Department.
