Punjab descending into lawlessness says Bikram Majithia

Amritsar, March 22 – Former Punjab minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Bikram Majithia today said Punjab was descending into lawlessness within one week of formation of the Congress government and asked CM Capt Amarinder Singh to rein in rogue Congress elements who were teaming up with criminals to indulge in political vendetta.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr Majithia said defeated Congress candidate in Majitha – Sukhjinder Lalli and his relatives were committing one atrocity after another even as the government remained a mute spectator. “Earlier Lalli’s men attacked and ransacked the property of a Dalit woman councillor in Ward number one in Majitha. Now they have led an attack on a brick kiln of former District Attorney Narinder Singh at Abdal village”.

The SAD leader said a criminal – Kundan Singh, who was constantly by the side of Lalli’s brother Jatinder Jeetu, had led the attack on the brick kiln along with ten to fifteen armed persons. He said Narinder’s son Gurinder had a providential escape after the assailants overpowered the chowkidar of the brick kiln. He said Narinder approached the Kathunangal SHO who despite coming to the spot and witnessing the armed personnel in the kiln premises refused to take prompt action in the matter.

Stating that a number of criminals were spreading terror in Majitha at the instance of Sukhjinder Lalli, the SAD leader said another criminal – Ranjit Singh Mianpandher was also threatening SAD workers in the constituency. He said both Kundan Singh and Mianpandher were undergoing jail sentences and had come out on parole.

Stating that things were going out of hand, Mr Majithia said in case this lawlessness was not curbed the SAD would approach the union home ministry and also the courts to get justice. “We will also come on the roads to demand justice if needed”, he added.
