Power Tariff hike Congress govt.’s ‘Diwali Gift’ to people of Punjab : Tarun Chugh

Chandigarh –
The Bharatiya Janata Party has flayed Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in the state for betraying the people of the state by announcing a power tariff hike which it termed as ‘huge’ and ‘unbearable.’

BJP National Secretary Tarun Chugh today said that the Gurdaspur bye-election result has gone to the head of the Chief Minister, who has assumed that now he was in a position to blatantly take anti-people decisions.

He said that the decision which comes just a week after Gurdaspur bye-poll result would hit domestic consumers, traders and industrialists hard as they would have to shell out 12 percent more in the form of tariff hike and two percent still more as ‘Navjot Singh Sidhu Tax.’

Chugh said that the hike was all set to shatter the budget of poor and middle-class as they were already reeling under huge financial burden. He said the Congress government has already stopped distribution of subsidised Atta-Dal as was being provided by erstwhile SAD-BJP government.

The BJP leader said that a 80 paise per unit raise for domestic consumers using upto 500 units per month and a 65 paise per unit increase for small industries was a big blow which these classes won’t be in a position to bear. He said the raise in fact calculates to 12 percent.

He also criticised the two percent raise and termed it as ‘Navjot Singh Sidhu Tax’.
Chugh said that the Congress government has once again proved that it was not here to honour the promises made to the people of the state.

“Congress made lofty promises to the people but has miserably failed to keep them. It promised to waive off entire loan of farmers, Employment to one person in a family, Unemployment allowance of Rs.2500 till the youth got job, Smartphones to every youth and also to raise the Shagun Scheme amount to Rs.51,000,” Chugh said adding that instead of delivering what the Congress promised, the government has burdened the people with 12 percent hike in power tariff.

Chugh asked the government to review its decision and announce the withdrawal of power tariff hike immediately.
