Nirav Modi Bank Scam: BJP says Congress was the mastermind, patron

Chandigarh – Terming Congress as mother of all scams, the BJP today said the party was the mastermind and patron of Nirav Modi scam too.

BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh said the Nirav Modi episode was the result of the transparency and cleaning campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the Prime Minister, during his initial speeches had indicated that it was a government committed to common man and it was due to his consistent efforts that such scams have been revealed.

Chugh blamed Manmohan Singh-led Congress government for patronising capitalists and encouraging them to loot public exchequer. He alleged that the former PM used to write recommendatory letters to Banks asking them to favour his favourits.

Recalling Vijay Mallya’s episode Chugh alleged that on the recommendation of the top Congress leadership, the PMO had then recommended a loan without any guarantee to Mallya after which he was granted a loan of Rs.9500 crore and susbsequently fled the country after fleecing the nation.

The BJP leader said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address in parliament, had stated that NPA phenomenon had caught up in a big way during previous Congress regime.

He said that due to consistent supervision and monitoring during NDA regime, it came to the notice of the RBI that the NPA has gone up to Rs.7.33 lakh-crore till the end of June 2017.

Chugh claimed that the Rs.4,00,000-crore loans were granted illegally by violating provisions during Congress regime but the scams were unearthed during Modi-led NDA government as it brought transparency and imposed a stringent system of checks and balances.

He said that those at the helm of affairs in UPA government, the managements of banks, industry and market forces knew what was going on but the Modi government chose to dig deeper and bring out the discrepancies resulting in the shocking disclosures.

Chugh assured the people of the country that the BJP-led government would act tough and recover the unscrupulously looted money back to the chests of the banks.
