Maha farmers resume protests

Mumbai, Maharashtra farmers today resumed protests for a total waiver of all farm loans in the state, just days after the state government began disbursing the first tranche of Rs 4,000 crore under the farm loan waiver scheme.

“Not all farmers are able to avail of the waiver because of the stringent conditions,” Ajit Nawale, who heads the co-ordination committee of farmer organisations, said, adding that the government had admitted that only 55 lakh of the 98 lakh farmers who applied for the waiver had filled the forms to avail of the benefit.
