Chandigarh, January 21- Setting an example for other political parties to follow, AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today requested the Election Commission to withdraw his security during his visits to Punjab which are creating unnecessary inconvenience to the public.

In a letter addressed to Mr. V.K.Singh Chief Electoral Officer Punjab, Kejriwal said, “I have noticed that during my tours to Punjab, a large number of police personnel are deployed for my security which in my view are not required and want the withdrawal of security provided to me”.

Kejriwal told the CEO that all AAP candidates have already made it clear that they do not require security being provided to them. AAP candidates have given affidavits to the respective returning officers that they don’t need security which is mandatory for the candidates.

Delhi Chief Minister said that our clear position is that given the poor law and order situation in Punjab, all the security apparatus shall be deployed for the safety and security of people of state. He asked the EC to take this decision to restore the confidence of people.

It is recalled that most of the ruling party leaders including Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, ministers, district presidents of SAD and BJP and certain close relatives of these leaders have been given Punjab Police and CRPF security which is being misused and police personnel were made to perform household chores. The EC has recently withdrawn 1200 police personnel from security duty but still about 2000 police personnel are deployed with political leaders.
