Chandigarh, July 22 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP had insulted the “Sikh quom” by ordering bouncers to toss and trample upon turbans of Sikh legislators in the assembly solely to please his Congress masters.
In a statement here, the SAD president said Rana KP would now be known as Goonda KP in the annals of Sikh history due his ‘nadarshahi’ hukam to suppress Sikh mlas by tossing their turbans besides misbehavior with Sikh women members of the State assembly.
Stating that the Congress Speaker belonged to the same party which had attacked the Darbar Sahab with tanks, he said it was unfortunate that he also belonged to Anandpur Sahab, the birth place of the Khalsa. “Goonda KP in his enthusiasm to strike against Sikh mlas has even insulted the holy land from which Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji gave us our ‘dastar’. He has also insulted Sikh religion and culture. We will submit a formal complaint against him with the National Scheduled Caste Commission besides launching a morcha to force him to quit”.
Mr Badal said it was condemnable that while the Speaker was doing all this Congress members egged him on to be even harsher. Besides tossing and trampling on turbans of two Sikh mlas – Manjit Singh Bilaspur and Peermal Singh, he also ordered his bouncers to attack woman mlas. “The end result witnessed two legislators including Bilaspur and woman mla Sarabjit Kaur Manuke being admitted in hospital even as many others were administered first aid in the Vidhan Sabha. “Such unprecedented violence ordered and commandeered by a Speaker in such a ruthless manner has never occurred in the history of the State assembly”.
The SAD president said it was left to former minister and SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia to rescue the pagri of Manjit Bilaspur. He said this was handed back to the AAP mla after AAP State president H S Phoolka and Aman Arora accompanied a SAD-BJP delegation led by him to the Government College and hospital in Sector 16. “We have done our bit by restoring the turban to its rightful owner but we will not rest till the goonda Speaker who is behind this act is not removed from his chair”, he added.
Giving details of the incident, Mr Bikram Majithia said the incident occurred after he along with Sharanjit Dhillon went up to protesting AAP mlas after walking out from the assembly. He said after returning to the assembly shortly after drinking water he witnessed AAP mla Manjit Bilaspur being mercilessly thrashed by bouncers. I came to his rescue and took on the bouncers but could not save his turban from falling. “I retrieved the fallen turban and brought this serious and sensitive issue to the notice of the Speaker. We stressed that the dastar was an article of pride for Sikhs and expected Rana KP to act in the matter. Instead of doing that he named us and asked us to vacate the Vidhan Sabha premisis”.
Meanwhile the SAD president said Goonda Speaker Rana KP had engineered this violence in a pre mediated manner. “He was continuously reading out prepared type written orders indicating the Congress had made up its mind to throttle the opposition so that it is not exposed during the debate on the budget. We were going to the expose the Congress government and prove that finance minister Manpreet Badal had fabricated budgetary accounts to the tune of Rs 15,000 crore. This is why the Speaker unleashed this brutality today”, he added.
