Fatehgarh Sahib, The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has given three more weeks to a three-member committee to probe the violation of the Akal Takht’s ‘hukamnama’ (edict) by the politicians who had sought Dera Sacha Sauda’s support during the recent Assembly elections.
This was stated by SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar after presiding over an executive committee meeting here today. He said the probe panel had been told to submit its final report by March 7.
The report would be submitted to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, on whose directions the SGPC had constituted the inquiry committee, he added.
Refuting the allegations that the matter had been put on the back burner with an eye on the upcoming Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections, Badungar said the deadline had been extended to enable various leaders to give their explanation before the panel.
Meanwhile, the executive committee passed resolutions for setting up panels to address the problems being faced by victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, improving the functioning of the educational directorate, and providing fee waiver and other benefits to Kashmiri Sikh students studying in educational institutions run by the SGPC.
Badungar said the SGPC had decided to give Rs 1 lakh and Rs 75,000, respectively, to two Sikh intellectuals to be selected by the three-member committee. Earlier, the intellectuals received only appreciation letters.
