Cong govt invites applications for job fair through advertisements one day after registrations have closed – SAD

Chandigarh, February 19 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said the Congress government had achieved yet another dubious distinction by advertising a purported job fair and inviting applicants for the same one day after registration for the fair were closed.

In a statement here, former minister Sikander Singh Maluka said the Congress government’s casual and non-serious attitude could be seen from the fact that a full scale advertisement in The Tribune today invited candidates seeking jobs to register online to be eligible for the same. “However the same advertisement states that only candidates who have registered themselves till February 18 will be considered for the Job Fair”.

Asking the Congress government to explain how candidates could register for jobs after the registration had closed, Mr Maluka said chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who holds the public relations portfolio, should explain why public money was being wasted in this manner. He also demanded immediate action against officials responsible for issuing such redundant advertisements and called for a stop to such profligacy.

The Akali leader suggested that instead of wasting public money on such empty announcements which had no meaning, the same could be utilized to waive off farm loans or pay off dues to families of farmers who had committed suicide in the last one year after the Congress government failed to waive off their loans as promised.

Mr Maluka also asked the government to perform and not fritter away resources on advertisements and functions. “Earlier also the government held a so called job fair and spent crores on self publicity for what was actually a campus placement drive which was happening every year. The fair was an abysmal failure with thousands of candidates returning back empty handed. Many who the government claimed would join various companies did not join them due to lack of proper pay and working guarantees. Now the government is conducting another fraud in the name of Second State level job fair. Instead of doing such tamashas the government should concentrate on fulfilling the promises made to the youth including ghar ghar naukari and distribution of mobile phones”. He said the SAD would take up this issue in the forthcoming budget session and force the government to fulfill the promises made to the youth.
