Cong boasts of kurki ban, SAD alleges mafia raj

Longowal, August 21
The Congress and the Akali Dal today paid tributes to Harchand Singh Longowal on his 32nd death anniversary, albeit in separate functions.
Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and two MLAs presided over the state-level function held at the local grain market, while SAD’s event at Bhai Dayala School had party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and state BJP chief Vijay Sampla as the main guests.
Addressing the gathering, Congress’ Sangrur MLA Vijay Inder Singla said: “Our government has abolished kurki (auction). During the previous SAD-BJP government, the authorities had initiated the process of auction, but notices were issued after the formation of our government. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has now directed the revenue officials not to auction agriculture land in any case.”
On the denial of admission to 27 Dalits students by an SGPC-run college in Moga over delayed scholarship funds, Dharamsot said: “We are conducting a probe into the misuse of the scholarship money by the previous SAD-BJP government. Efforts are also on to release the funds at the earliest.”
Sukhbir, on the other hand, alleged that the Congress government was only interested in robbing the state and its resources. “The prices of sand have increased six-fold as all mines have been taken over by Congress legislators. Similarly, the price of liquor has also gone up by three times with the entire liquor trade being monopolised by the CM’s confidant Paramjit Singh Sarna’s daughter Deepa Chadha,” he alleged.
Sampla appealed to the farmers not to follow the path of suicide and instead fight for their rights. “The current scenario of distress in farm sector is due to inefficiency of Finance Minister Manpreet Badal. He does not know how to manage the finances,” alleged Sampla.
Cong leaders argue over seat
Daman Thind Bajwa and her husband Harman Bajwa, who supervised the function had heated arguments with Congress district chief Rajinder Singh Raja on the dais over sparing a seat for Preet, a youth from Duggan. While the Bajwa couple was asking him to leave the stage, Raja wanted him to stay.
Media boycott
After two women PCS officers refused to make proper sitting arrangement for TV media crew and journalists, the latter boycotted Dharamsot’s press conference. The journalists relented after the intervention of the DC. The minister had to wait for around 25 minutes for the matter to get resolved.
