CAPT AMARINDER WRITES TO NITIN GADKARI FOR DECLARING NH-344A AS MATA GUJRI MARG

Chandigarh,  Following up on his Fatehgarh Sahib announcement in this regard, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has written to Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari, seeking renaming of National Highway-344A as Mata Gujri Marg.

The Chief Minister had said in Fatehgarh Sahib last month that the proposal for declaring the new National Highway from Patiala to Panyali (on Ropar-Phagwara road) via Sirhind- Fatehgarh Sahib-Bassi Pathana-Morinda as Mata Gujri Marg had already been submitted to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

In his letter to Nitin Gadkari, the Chief Minister has informed the minister that the Feasibility Report and Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the road was already in the process of preparation and would soon be submitted to the Ministry.

Pertinently, the historical towns of Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib and Chamkaur Sahib, where the four Sahibzadas of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji attained martyrdom, are located on this road. Mata Gujri Ji, the mother of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji, who accompanied the younger Sahibzadas (Sahibzada Zorawar Singh & Fateh Singh) also attained martyrdom at Fatehgarh Sahib. Mata Gujri ji is an iconic figure in Sikh history and is remembered for her courage and supreme sacrifice.

Captain Amarinder also thanked the Union Minister for declaring the road connecting NH-344A from (Village Paniyali)—Bela-Chamkaur Sahib-Morinda-Sirhind upto Patiala as National Highway, in principle.
