AMARJIT SINGH SAMRA ASSUMES CHARGE AS PUNJAB MARKFED CHAIRMAN

Chandigarh, April 25:

Former Punjab Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Amarjit Singh Samra on Tuesday took over as Chairman of Markfed in the presence of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Captain Amarinder felicitated Samra on his appointment as Chairman of the Asia’s largest cooperative federation.

Samra expressed gratitude to Captain Amarinder Singh for reposing trust and confidence in his ability to take on this huge responsibility and assured the Chief Minister of his best efforts in transforming Markfed into one of India’s leading cooperative federations in terms of profitability and productivity.

The responsibility is not new for Samra, who had served as Markfed chairman even earlier, on two occasions, from July 1992 to July 1994 and March 1996 to August 1998. Elected MLA from Nakodar assembly constituency for four consecutive terms, Samra was appointed Minister of State with independent charge by Captain Amarinder during his previous stint as chief minister in March 2002. He was allotted Revenue and Rehabilitation portfolio with independent charge and Agriculture (additional charge).

Prominent amongst others present on the occasion were Cabinet Ministers Braham Mohindra, Rana Gurjit Singh and Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Member Parliament Gurpartap Singh Aujla, MLAs Amrik Singh Dhillon, Pargat Singh, Rajinder Beri, Bawa Henry and Chaudhary Surinder Singh, Ex-Minister Tej Parkash Singh, Ex-MLAs Jasbir Singh Dimpa, Jagbir Singh Brar, besides several prominent Congress leaders and workers.
