Chandigarh, December 5: Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh had just pegged his total income in fiscal year 2012- 13 at Rs. 12.15 lakh only while he was beneficiary of UK based trust and its subsidiaries having mind boggling assets of Rs. 460 crores.
Stating his here today, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) spokesman and advisor to deputy chief minister Sukhhbir Badal , said that that income tax returns shows Amarinder Singh is not a “ Maharaja” as he is fondly called by his supporters but is actually a “pauper” if one goes by his income tax returns.
“However, it goes without saying that Amarinder had been concealing his actual income from the IT sleuths all these years while he remained busy stashing his wealth in Swiss and other banks as revealed in the charge sheet filed by the Income Tax department”, asserted Sirsa adding that instead of responding to the specific queries of the income tax department, Amarinder stonewalled all such questions and made bizarre allegations against the officials and the ministry.
Sirsa argued that how could Amarinder Singh manage his house hold expenditure with such meager income of Rs. one lakh per month while his travelling abroad, entertaining his foreign guests and whopping water and electricity charges of his ancestral palace Moti Mahal had been many time more than his declared income as reflected in his own affidavits.
In fact, his wife Parneet Kaur had shown a higher income of Rs. 25 lakh for the corresponding period while she used to get fat salary as minister of state for foreign affairs. However, Amarinder had paid individual income tax of Rs 5.19 lakh and of Rs.1.54 lakh as HUF for the assessment year 2006-07, added Sirsa.
The Akali leader averred that Amarinder owes an explanation to Punjabis whom he plundered during his tenure and stashed money in foreign banks and purchased property abroad including a flat in Dubai. This money should be brought back and ploughed back for the development of the state, added Sirsa.
Sirsa pooh-poohed Amarinder allegation of political vendetta arguing that the investigations against Amarinder’s wife Preneet Kaur and some Raninder was initiated during UPA government in which she herself a minister of state in foreign affairs and then both mother son were asked by IT officials to fill up a consent form in Dec.2011 for obtaining information about their alleged fore9ng accounts in Switzerland and Dubai.
The firebrand Akali leader said that per the IT department charge sheet, Amarinder was beneficiary of UK based Jacaranda Trust and its four associate companies- wherein Raninder was an alleged settler- had a total wealth of Rs. 460 crore.
Besides, the charge sheet accuses Amarinder of transferring Dubai based Rs nine crore penthouse to one Ferx Asset Holding Pvt.Ltd. but Amarinder feigned ignorant of these transactions while IT sleuths had all the related documents in their possession, averred Sirsa.
