Chandigarh, February 15- Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) today expressed serious concern over sharp decline in enrollment of students in the government schools in rural areas in Punjab and rise in admissions in the private schools mostly opened during the last five years of SAD-BJP rule.

AAP campaign committee chairman and MP Bhagwant Mann in a statement here said that SAD-BJP government had made high claims of reforms in education system and improving the standard of education. He said that the ground realities were totally opposite of what Education Minister Dr.Daljit Singh Cheema claimed and propagated during elections.

Mann said that a report prepared by Mumbai based NGO ‘Pratham’ has said that the number of students studying in private schools is higher than that in government ones. He said that SAD-BJP government had deliberately closed the government schools in villages on the pretax of introducing cluster system i.e. shifting students where number of students is less than 20 to other schools within five km radius. Mann said that this policy was aimed to help private schools to fill the gap.

Mann said that 51.6 percent rural students were enrolled in private schools against 45.5 percent in 2014. He said that the standard of education in government schools had declined gradually and as per the report only 35.4 percent of students studying in fifth class government schools can understand English compared to 83.2 percent in private schools. He said that similar is the case of mathematics and 51 percent of class seven were not able solve math questions.

AAP MP further said that the dropout rate in government schools after 10th class is above 70 percent and only five percent students go beyond higher secondary. He said that it was calculate mischief by SAD-BJP government to deprive people of quality education. He said that same was the case with primary health system which is completely ruined. He said that SAD-BJP government promoted private hospitals and scaled down primary health centers and dispensaries and re-designated sub-division hospitals as referral hospitals.

Mann said that 19 infrastructure of government schools both in rural and urban area was deplorable, As per report 19 percent of schools don’t have drinking water and 21 percent schools lack toilets and 24 percent schools are without toilets for girls. He said that it was shameless on part of Akails to boast for best education in Punjab.

Mann said that AAP government had provided education and health services of international standard in Delhi and same replica would be implemented in Punjab. He said that it was matter of time only when people of Punjab would feel honored citizens and can avail all basic facilities.
