23 deaths reported so far due to floods in eastern Uttar Pradesh

At least 23 deaths have been reported due to floods that have brought life to a standstill in 890 villages spread across 19 districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and the Terai region.
Of the 16 mighty rivers whose water levels are being monitored at least 14 rivers are flowing above the danger mark or rapidly rising hitting a population of 8.2 lakh people by the natural calamity, claims the office of Relief Commissioner.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made an aerial survey of several flood-affected districts on Monday. In Gonda he suspended three officials and transferred the CMO over alleged laxity in flood relief works.
On Wednesday, he is scheduled to visit the flood-hit districts of Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjehanpur and Sitapur.
A flood alert has been issued to 40 districts where the district magistrates have been asked to be on a 24-hour vigil.
Among the worst-affected districts are Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjehanpur, Sitapur, Shrawasti, Bahraich, Gonda, Balrampur, Barabanki, Faizabad, Sidharthnagar, Basti, Deoria, Kushinagar and Gorakhpur.
